CLASS DESCRIPTION
Our Auditioning for Film & Television classes aim to equip students with the tools they need to be successful in any number of auditioning situations. Whether in-person with Casting Directors, Producers and/or Directors, or through the taped submission process, actors need to maximize their effectiveness with every audition opportunity. This includes learning skills specific to on-camera auditioning and implementing these techniques to be successful in the room. Text analysis, character creation, emotional connection, and technical acting-for-camera skill development…at Vancouver Acting School, we want to ensure you are comfortable with every aspect when you get that big audition! Students will prepare and present scenes on camera each night in a simulated audition process, receiving personalized feedback and support.

Pre-Requisites:This is a class for intermediate and advanced actors. Students in this class should have experience auditioning and be at a level where they can learn lines effectively week on week and have an understanding of the basic elements of script analysis. We will be acting on camera each week so some comfort in front of the lens is essential.

Course description:
This is a 12-week in person Self Tape Mastery program, think of it as scene study class in a self tape audition format! Each week you will explore a new scene, graduating from the very tricky one liner auditions and on to scenes from six pages and beyond. Each week you will be working with different actors in the class. Under the guidance of Francesca Bianchi, you will explore a technique of script analysis developed especially for self-taping purposes, creating the space, working with props in detail, complex blocking as well as emotional investment. It’s about diving deeper so that as actors you can bring your depth and creativity to all genres and communicate that effectively for the camera. Preparation and dedication to this class week on week is essential and ensures that you will graduate this course with the knowledge you need to excel at your auditions and find the creativity needed to bring part of yourself to each audition and roll.
Meet your instructor
Francesca Bianchi
Francesca is originally from Australia where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2010. She worked professionally in theatre for ten years, her last theatre performance being a year-long tour of Willy Russel’s Educating Rita, where she played the title role of the Liverpudlian hairdresser, Rita. In 2017 she moved to Canada to pursue a career in film and television. Within one month of landing in Canada Francesca was scouted in an acting class and began training to become an on-set dialect coach, a role she now has enjoyed on several shows such as, DC Legends of Tomorrow, See and The Twilight Zone, to name a few. As far as her acting career is concerned Francesca has enjoyed roles on several network series and movies such as, Project Blue Book, Get Shorty, The Order, Charmed, Murder Ever After and Making Something Great. Francesca us now in 2021 joining a stellar team of educators at VAS and is so excited to share her knowledge of this craft to the next generation of artists.
Topics Covered:
- Actors will develop a clean and concise system of script analysis fine-tuned for self-taping.
- Move to a more advanced understanding of the use of props in a scene.
- Develop skill in understanding story and the function of their character in the overall project.
- Improve their skill dealing with difficult blocking such as fighting, changing rooms, kissing, hugging in a self-tape setting.
- Deepening their emotion connection to the work in order to communicate that thought the lens
- Become faster and more efficient with lines and direction
What’s Expected from the actor:
- Actors will arrive to class each week prepared and ready to work (lack of preparation will result in less time)
- To give their full attention to the actors working – much of the learning comes from watching other actors in this class.
- This is a professional class and will be treated as such

Dan Bacon
Over the past 20+ years Daniel has amassed a resume over well over 100 credits in film and television along with over 20 theatre credits. Selected credits include featured roles in the films Toxic Skies and The Day The Earth Stood Still and guest starring roles on the television shows The Bridge and Supernatural. Most recently, Daniel played a supporting lead in the Steven Spielberg directed film, The Big Friendly Giant. Daniel also voiced the character of Rhodey/War Machine on the multi-season animated series Iron Man: Armored Adventures.
Daniel has also worked extensively as an audition reader over the past 12 years for casting directors Clark & Page, Mayers & Brandstatter and Michelle Allen. His professional demeanor and strong reading skills have earned him a strong reputation for additional work on set and other various projects.
Daniel has studied extensively starting at Gastown Actor’s Studio, and continued with Lyric School of Acting, David Rotenberg from Toronto’s Professional Actor’s Lab and renowned acting coach Larry Moss. Daniel began his teaching career with Kate Twa at Lyric School of Acing and played an integral role in the development of Vancouver Acting School in its earliest years.

David James Lewis
Born and raised in Vancouver BC, David James Lewis knew from an early age that he wanted to be an actor.
At the beginning of his career David cut his teeth on commercials, independents and numerous short films. One of them being 1999’s “Shoes Off” which won the Best Short Film International Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival. David continues to enjoy and contribute to the
independent film scene and in fact finds it some of his most rewarding work to date.
Over the years David has worked opposite Keanu Reeves and Jennifer
Connelly on “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, William H. Macy in the award winning film “Door to Door” and most recently with Aubrey Plaza on the reboot of “Childs Play”.
Previous television work includes “Dead Like Me”, “The L Word” “X-Files”
“Supernatural” “Fringe” and every third Movie of the Week over the past 10 years.
He has a Leo award which he keeps next to his bed.

Course Description:
With almost 30 years in the industry and over 240 acting credits, David Lewis knows what it takes to book the job. This Audition Class will focus on the fundamentals of the audition room. How to breakdown your sides, create a moment before and moment after and connect to your reader are just a few of the skills you will learn in this class. With the new addition of audition self tapes being the norm, David will make sure you also have the skills necessary to create your own at home self tapes.
