It seems the provincial government’s recent move to slash the film industry tax credit has not hindered interest in B.C., as another major American TV series comes to Vancouver. Comicbook series Supergirl is moving its production from Los Angeles to Vancouver for its second season.

The information was confirmed by The CW’s vice president of publicity, Suzanne Gomez, who also noted her network had picked up the show from its network partner, CBS.

B.C.’s provincial government recently announced it would be cutting the film industry tax credit from 33 per cent, to 28 per cent. The change is to take effect October 1.

Finance Minister Mike De Jong said at the time, it was prompted by the province’s major boom in the film industry — driven primarily by a low Canadian dollar.

The number of film and TV productions in Vancouver increased by 40 per cent from 2014 to 2015.

That trend has continued this year — January was already 30 per cent busier than the previous “record breaking” year, according to Sandi Swanigan, the city’s senior manager for film and special events.

Supergirl joins a roster of other CW shows being filmed here in Hollywood North including The Flash, Arrow and Supernatural.
