B.C.-made Supernatural, a fantasy horror TV series produced by Warner Bros., has boosted the provinces economy by more than half a billion dollars, according to an MNP LLP report released May 25.
A total of $509.2 million has been spent in B.C. on direct production of the series, and the show has supported 9,615 full-time equivalent jobs over 11 seasons. As well, the show has spent an estimated $29.6 million on crew and labour and $19 million on goods and services in B.C.
“British Columbia has provided our production a home for 11 seasons,” said Jeremy Carver, the show’s executive producer. “We have the best talent and crews available, which makes it an ideal destination for production year-after-year.
“The local communities and vendors, not to mention an incredibly loyal fan base, are what make productions like Supernatural such a success.”
More than 1,000 local businesses have benefited from the production, according to the report. These companies include production facilities, hotels, restaurants, catering companies, retailers, cleaners, audio and video companies and professional service firms.
The show has been filmed in Metro Vancouver, as well as areas of Vancouver Island, Thompson/Okanagan and the Kootenays.
